The Power of Collaboration
The Overview
The Adult and Community Education (ACE) sector plays a crucial role in helping people overcome barriers and access education and employment opportunities.
However, despite its importance, the sector often struggles with limited resources and fragmented data systems that hinder its ability to measure impact and make informed decisions.
To address this, Latitude Network partnered with Community Colleges Australia (CCA) and leading ACE providers to create a transformative data collaboration project.
This groundbreaking, award winning initiative has enabled ACE providers to work together, share insights and build a unified data system that empowers both individual organisations and the sector as a whole.
The Challenge
Before the project, ACE providers faced several challenges:

-
Fragmented Data Systems
Providers collected data inconsistently, making it difficult to track outcomes or identify trends.
-
Limited Capacity
Many organisations lacked the tools or resources to analyse their data effectively.
-
Advocacy Roadblocks
Without unified sector wide data, advocating for funding and policy changes was challenging.
-
Gaps in Service Delivery
Providers had limited visibility into service overlaps or underserved areas, affecting resource allocation.
These challenges highlighted the need for a collaborative approach to data collection and analysis, enabling the sector to demonstrate its value and improve outcomes.
The Solution
Latitude Network and CCA co designed a sector wide data system to address these challenges.
Key elements of the project included:

Standardised Surveys and Metrics
27 participating colleges adopted common measures to capture detailed information about student demographics, needs and progress.
Robust Data Infrastructure
A secure data warehouse was developed, integrating data from 5 datasets across 100 fields, covering everything from student enrolments to long-term outcomes.
Interactive Dashboards
Live operational dashboards provided each college with real-time insights into student needs, program effectiveness, and sector-wide trends.
Collaborative Learning Labs
Quarterly learning sessions brought colleges together to share insights, compare outcomes, and refine data practices.
Sector Wide Reports
A State of the Sector Report offered a comprehensive view of service delivery, enabling better advocacy and resource planning.
The Outcome
The ACE Data Collaboration project has transformed how the sector operates, empowering providers with the tools and insights needed to drive meaningful change.
Key Achievements
-
Improved Decision Making:
Providers now use real-time data to allocate resources effectively and improve service delivery.
-
Enhanced Student Outcomes:
Insights into student needs have enabled colleges to tailor programs, leading to better engagement and success rates.
-
Stronger Advocacy:
Aggregated sector wide data has strengthened the case for funding and policy support, showcasing the collective impact of the ACE sector.

We are pleased to announced this partnership was recently awarded the 2024 SIMNA Award for Outstanding Collaboration in Social Impact Measurement for our work building the Adult and Community Education (ACE) Data Collaboration!
Why it Matters
This initiative goes beyond improving individual organisations.
By creating a shared data infrastructure, the project has established a foundation for long term sector growth and impact.
It demonstrates the power of collaboration and how data can be used as a tool for collective problem solving and advocacy.
What's Next
Building on this success, the ACE Data Collaboration project will introduce new features in 2025, including advanced data analytics and predictive insights to drive further innovation and improvement across the sector.
